ARTHRITIS PHYSICAL THERAPY

When a joint is showing arthritic changes or degeneration, that loss of function will not reverse. However, research has shown that physical therapy can make changes in the pain you experience, from arthritis. We focus on the following for our arthritic patients:

  • Pain management, hot/cold therapy to ease joint stiffness
  • Therapeutic exercises to maintain or increase range of motion of joints
  • Increasing mobility, strength to support joints and maintain overall fitness

BALANCE DISORDER REHABILITATION

Balance disorders make it difficult for individuals to establish or maintain an upright or stable position, whether they are walking, sitting, or standing. Balance disorders are caused by issues ranging from:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Joint stiffness
  • Inner ear problems (vestibular disorders)
  • Certain medications
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Aging processes

Regardless of what the root cause of your balance issue is, physical therapy can help. We develop balance training and exercise programs customized for each patient and the cause of the balance disorder.

DIABETES PHYSICAL THERAPY (TYPE II)

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce enough insulin. Managing diabetes can help to lower the risk of future health issues. Therapeutic exercises are an essential part of managing diabetes to help regulate glucose levels, increase blood circulation, build muscle strength, and avoid heart disease and stroke, as well as joint or muscle pain. Our therapeutic exercise programs for diabetes are individualized according to your medication schedule, and the presence and severity of diabetic complications. Physical therapy will benefit if you have:

  • Numbness or tingling in your feet
  • Pain or limping with walking
  • Assistive walking devices such as a cane or crutches

JOINT REPLACEMENT | POST SURGICAL PHYSICAL THERAPY

Postoperative rehabilitation is of the utmost importance following total joint replacement and any surgery, in order to ensure the pain-free function of the joints and muscles and to improve the patient’s quality of life. Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. Such surgery can be performed on any joints of the body, including the hip, knee, ankle, foot, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers. Physical therapy is important to:

  • Reduce pain, muscle soreness, and swelling after surgery
  • Increase circulation in the body especially to your legs and feet, which is important for preventing blood clots
  • Restore mobility in joints
  • Assist with regaining muscle strength
  • Assist with walking using walking aids (as needed)

DID YOU KNOW: Physical therapy plays a key role in the rehabilitation of people who have received a total joint replacement of the knee, hip, or shoulder.

OBESITY REHABILITATION

Being both overweight and inactive compromises a person’s health and longevity. Physical therapy can help patients become more functionally independent, while teaching the importance of understanding body composition, and various health risks. We help overweight and individuals managing obesity to become more active and fit by teaching them how to move in ways that can be pain-free and even enjoyable. We focus on:

  • Teaching correct posture
  • Teaching right-fit movement patterns
  • Promoting regular exercise programs
  • Pain management – Foot, knee, joint and muscle pain resulting for excess weight and obesity.

PAIN MANAGEMENT REHABILITATION

Physical therapy is a leading alternative to opioids for pain management. Physical therapy involves treatments that focus on the prevention and management of pain, that is the result of an injury or disability.

Physical therapy for pain management can help to:

  • Relieve pain and promote healing
  • Improve physical function and mobility
  • Restore function and movement
  • Develop the skills and strategies to perform daily activities

“Pain is such an uncomfortable feeling that even a tiny amount of it is enough to ruin every enjoyment.”
Will Rogers

“When we have hope, we discover powers within ourselves. We may never have known-the power to make sacrifices, to endure, to heal, and to love. Once we choose hope, everything is possible.”
Christopher Reeve

SPINAL CORD INJURY REHABILITATION

Life after a spinal cord injury can be difficult. Physical therapy and exercise not only contribute to rehabilitation but also a healthy lifestyle. Our therapy treatments for spinal cord injury are divided into four categories:

  • Strength-based training to help perform activities of daily living and mobility
  • Injury prevention training from muscle weakness or imbalance
  • Flexibility training to improve range of motion and reduce spasticity
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation

ZKFACT: Exercise is the only intervention that can have lasting effects on function after a spinal cord injury, both in promoting neural recovery and in reducing secondary complications

SPORTS INJURY REHABILITATION

Anyone who participates in sports will encounter a sports injury at some point. But when those activities result in severe injury and prolonged problems, physical therapy may be needed. Our physical therapists utilize treatment techniques that focus on human anatomy, movement, and pain management. Our therapists will work with you to devise a treatment plan that minimizes physical stress and facilitates recovery, to get you back on your game faster by:

  • Increasing muscle flexibility and strength
  • Increasing joint range of motion
  • Restoring physical function
  • Minimizing pain
