Today is World Spine Day 2023 - Ways to Keep Your Spine Healthy and Happy
World Spine Day emphasizes the importance of healthy spinal posture and activity. Here are some preventive spine health tips that promote body awareness and minimize the day-to-day wear and tear on a person's spine:
• Minimize the duration of sitting to promote spine health.
• Strengthen your core to provide support to your abdominal and back muscles.
• Incorporate exercises like Back Flexion, Knee to Chest Stretch, Chin to Chest Stretch, Ear to Shoulder Stretch, and Hip Stretch to fortify the back.
• Maintain a healthy weight to alleviate pressure on the spine.
• Quit smoking, as nicotine’s vasoconstrictor effects hinder blood vessels, limiting blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients to the spine.
• Develop a habit of walking and standing at regular intervals.
• Exercise caution when lifting heavy objects.
• Engage in yoga to enhance muscle strength and flexibility.
• Opt for a firm mattress for better sleeping posture.
• Choose shoes with proper arch support to uphold spine health.
• Seek medical advice if experiencing back pain, and actively participate in awareness campaigns to stay informed about spinal issues.
• Include essential vitamins and minerals such as Magnesium, Calcium, vitamins D and K, vitamin A, Iron, and B-complex vitamins in your diet to boost bone and spine health.
Achieve Your Goals
Movement is crucial to your health, quality of life, and independence. For some people, pain makes movement a challenge. Our PTs can discuss your goals and work with you to develop a program to achieve them so you can get back to life and your desired activities as soon as possible.
Physical and Occupational Therapists are movement experts. They improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education, and prescribed movement. You can contact a physical therapist directly for an evaluation. To schedule an appointment at ZK Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, click here, or call (702) 840-1222.
